![]() I wonder - are there LR presets offered within the LR user community for various camara/ISOs that contain suggested Lightroom NR and sharpening settings - perhaps also including some settings for clarity, texture & dehaze? There seem so many variables to try that the task of finding ideal settings is very daunting. But in my present state of ignorance, this looks like rather a lot of work. If I can learn enough about LR noise and sharpening capabilities, I imagine I can set basic + variant presets for all my (3) cameras and their commonly-used ISOs, in time. I found that the Neat Image presets that it automatically derives are very good for many but not all subjects, so I do have a couple of variants from it's recommendations (mostly to apply less sharpening). Perhaps the first step is to peruse Mrs Queen's "Missing FAQ" book, that I've just bought and downloaded, to obtain a better understanding of what can be achieved with LR. I suppose my problem is that I don't know enough yet about the LR noise and sharpening tools. However, I do already have some basic presets tied to camera model/ISO that include basic NR and sharpening. Thanks for that reference (and the pointer to another place to learn even more LR stuff).Īs I'm still using Windows7 I believe I can't update Lightroom above V 8.4. This plugin features an effects library (a bit like the filter gallery in Photoshop) and allows you to stack multiple effects to achieve interesting new results. But how to get the best results other than by trial and error? I suppose I must read Mrs Queen's books very carefully. ON1’s Effects is a useful Photoshop plugin for adding a quick effect to an image, whether it's a colour treatment, addition of texture and noise, or creative borders. It would be more efficient (more pleasing to my natural sense of economy) to be able to use LR for everything, including NR and sharpening. ? My lazy streak is happy to employ the efforts of others. But perhaps there are similar LR profiles for various camera models. It should detect Affinity Photo automatically and install all needed files for you. Coming to you from Mark McGee Photos, this great video takes you behind the scenes as he. To install it just run the Neat Image 8 installer. This neat video takes you behind the scenes to show you just what you can accomplish with an iPhone. These too seem to (largely) provide good results. Neat Image 8 is a fully supported plugin in Affinity Photo. There are also user-made NR & sharpening profiles for many cameras at various ISOs available on the Neat Image website - although these are not for my particular camera, just for my camera model. Ink is a Photoshop plugin that allows you to see additional information on a design youre creating - this includes text size, font name, color codes, and the size of your image in pixels. It seems to generate very good results that are often better than my attempts in LR. In short - the automation of NR & sharpening. ![]() But the advantage of Neat Image to me, the lazy one, is it's ability to analyse an image and derive a good balance of NR and sharpening via its clever algorithms for a particular camera at a particular ISO. I can even save the settings as part of a profile for that camera/ISO in LR to use on subsequent images. Scanned archive images and prints can look contemporary, and can be as grain- and pattern-free as possible. ![]() On the wider issue of NR though - I've been a fan of NI for years now, and it is very good: but it has been entirely replaced in my affections and workflow by Topaz Denoise 5, which is unquestionably capable of better results - and in a far more straightforward way - than NI (or Noise Ninja, which I also own).I can use LR noise reduction and sharpening tools - as well as the clarity et al sliders - to reach a good balance of detail and un-speckled skies etcetera. I can't do without that ability.īut no, there's no need to use NI as a plug-in. It also means that selective NR (and sharpening) can be applied to an image by use of (in my case) Duplicate Layers and the Eraser brush. ![]() It is available as a standalone application for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and also as a plugin for Photoshop (Windows, macOS). I started off using NI as a stand-alone, but there's an awful lot to recommend the plug-in from an efficient workflow point of view.Īpplying NR processing from within PS, PSP or PSP doesn't necessarily mean a better end result, but keeping the entire PP process in one place strikes me as a more efficient use of my time, and (this matters to me) it means that the entire process from opening the converted file to producing the finished result can be performed in one place, in real time. Neat Image is computer software that removes digital noise from photographic images and also performs other image quality improvements. ![]()
