![]() Grid 2: Reloaded‘s music is also sort of catchy. ![]() All of the cars are expertly modeled though, so racing car fanatics should have their appetites fulfilled by the plethora of unique car designs. The backgrounds are detailed with either wilderness or skyscrapers, so you can tell what kind of environment you are racing in, but very few times will you stop and issue a “wow” while playing it. The graphics here aren’t especially good compared to other modern racers. So there is some strategy in picking a specific car that is adapted to your own control habits.Īll in all, it isn’t hard to find cars that control the way you want them to, and this makes winning a race seem like an act of skill and not simply the luck of the draw. And then there are “balanced” cars that are halfway between these two types. If you like going through turns without drifting you can use a “grip” car. If you like drifting through corners, you can select a “drift” car. There are also different car types that are tailored to your own particular play style. Basically, you can accelerate, maneuver, and use your hand-brake to drift. In Grid 2: Reloaded, most cars are very responsive and handle easily. I recently played Forza 5, and the cars I used in that game were very hard to maneuver without spinning out on a regular basis. The controls in Grid 2: Reloaded are especially sharp. Does Grid 2: Reloaded succeed in impressing a new player such as myself? Read on for the answer. As I never played the original Grid 2, I can only approach the game as a novice. However, since then a sizable amount of DLC has been released for the title (25 new cars and six new tracks), and rather than asking gamers to spend their precious money on buying each and every DLC separately, in January 2014, Codemasters released Grid 2: Reloaded in order to discount the cost of the DLC and attract new players. Grid 2 was first released in May 2013 amid favorable reviews. Any more than that, and you'll just feel like you wasted your money. This Ind圜ar is newly featured in Grid 2: Reloaded. So you get subjected to such gems as "some of your starts are getting a reputation as aggressive, and we don't want that." Really? We don't want to have a reputation for being aggressive? In a RACE? Who put that one in there? Ah well, so to boil it down to details: PRO: Beautiful graphics Nice selection of cars CONS: Blathering commentary Poor handling SUMMARY: If you can find the game for $10 or less, it's a fairly good deal, and you may end up enjoying the game. ![]() If you're in 4th place, you'll hear "Try for 3rd." I mean, wow! I would have never thought of trying to advance in the pack so I could overtake 3rd! Thank you for the insight, dude!" It is utterly useless, and you can't get rid of it. Another annoying feature is the commentary. ![]() The front wheel drive cars handle exactly the same as the rear wheel drive cars, and that just doesn't make sense at all. It's almost like some corners are designed for drifting while others won't allow it. One minute I can take a corner and my tires will hold, and the next I'll hit a similar corner and my car will flip off the road into a wall, and not a lick of it makes sense. The graphics look wonderful, especially on Ultra, everything looks smooth and polished. GRID 2 is both great fun at times, and awkward the rest of the time. The driving does feel better than in Grid 1, but after a while, I kept just thinking I'd rather just go back and play Grid 1 instead of this game, which I don't think is what the developers were going for. All in all, it's a good game, but they took a lot out of it that I miss from Grid 1, like having my own team, ease of selecting the events I wanted to be in instead of feeling like I am shoehorned into only a few race options, the ability to buy my own cars instead of either just having them given to me or having to win them in challenges, etc. Another mild annoyance I had was that despite the game looking better than Grid 1, the replays were much more fun to watch in Grid 1, likely due to better camera placement. I also didn't like how the game seems to focus more on 1-on-1 races a lot more than Grid 1 did. I enjoyed the bump in graphical quality, and how smoothly the game runs, but all the cutscenes and the single-player mode in general is a bit I enjoyed the bump in graphical quality, and how smoothly the game runs, but all the cutscenes and the single-player mode in general is a bit annoying. ![]()
